Immune Boosting Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Fermented food recipe

Immune Boosting Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

This is a nice breakfast option for the fall to begin building your immune system and it tastes just like pumpkin pie!  Pumpkin is high in immune promoting Vitamin A.  Try to increase the amount of bright orange fruits and veggies in your diet to keep your immune system strong.

By eating foods that are in season and locally grown, you maximize the nutrition you are taking in.  So think squash, pumpkin, apples, kale, chestnuts, and brussels sprouts.  And, try to eat more warming foods like soups and stews and fewer salads.  Your body needs these ‘heavier’ foods for the cooler days.

And if you need another reason to try this recipe, eating a high protein breakfast is supportive to the adrenal glands and sets the stage for good blood sugar balance throughout the day…which means better weight control and improved sleep at night.

Give it a try!

  • 1 serving vanilla whey protein powder (isolate or vegan)
  • 3 pumpkin cubes (freeze canned pumpkin or steamed & mashed pumpkin in ice cube trays and then store in freezer bags)
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • a shake of pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger)
  • about 1-2 cup(s) of water or almond milk

Blend all ingredients in blender or vita-mix.  Add ice cubes if you like it colder.  Enjoy!
