Metagenics Detox Diary…
It was time for my annual spring detox. The signs were there. I was a little more ‘angry’ at the little things, tired at the end of the day, digging into my dark chocolate stash before 9:00 am in the morning and sugar cravings taking over. sshh! As a holistic nutritionist, it’s difficult to admit but it was a long winter…and everyone can get off track every now and again!
I have done the Metagenics cleanse two times before in the spring and often recommend this cleanse to my clients. It is one of the easier ones out there because you are supported by a nutritional supplement and therefore hunger isn’t an issue (only cravings – which is a whole different thing) and symptoms are generally lessened.
How do you know that you need to detoxify your body?
Here are some questions to ask yourself…
If you say yes to many of these questions – it is time.
- Do you often feel tired or have a lack of energy?
- Do you have sore muscles for no apparent reason?
- Have you recently lost fat (not muscle)?
- Do you have difficulty concentrating?
- Are you easily irritated or feel moody?
- Do you have trouble sleeping?
- Do you wake up feeling unrefreshed?
- Are you trying to lose weight?
- Have you hit a weight loss plateau?
- Do you feel bloated or gain weight easily?
- Do you have digestive or intestinal discomfort?
- Do you have occasional mild headaches?
- Do you feel like you’re hot as healthy as other people your age?
- Do you commonly experience ‘brain fog’, fatigue or drowsiness?
- Do you feel like you need a kick start or a jump start on a healthy program?
Toxins are everywhere: in the water we drink, the meats we eat, the lotions we put on our skin, the air we breathe, the makeup we wear – you get the idea.
OK…Here it is…
10 Day Metabolic Detoxification Program with Metagenics
The kit includes: Ultra Clear Renew in Original or Peach Flavor, AdvaClear supplement, instruction booklet with recipes, a shaker cup and a grocery shopping bag. Here is the great news – the Ultra Clear powder tastes pretty good!
The simple 10 day program is scientifically proven to work. It includes targeted nutrition, a modified elimination diet, simple exercise and basic recommendations for stress management. After 10 days many people notice improved energy and no sugar cravings!
Keep in mind that as you release toxins, you may experience different emotions, feelings, levels of energy and physical responses. Keep track everyday of what is going on. Basically, the worse you feel, the more you need the cleanse.
And remember, we take our cars in for oil changes, so why not do the same for our livers…we need to keep them healthy for 80 plus years!
The Menu Plan:
The booklet has a specific elimination plan with recipes. I follow it as closely as I can but I often suggest people can have organic lean meats in addition to the fish if they like. The toughest part is finding a 10 day stretch where you don’t have too many social engagements.
I looked over the menu plan during the week, shopped for the items from the recipe book on Friday and began Saturday and of course roped my husband into the program. This way, you experience the tough symptoms (together) from the first few days while at home. Your colleagues will thank you. 🙂
Days 1 – 4
These are the tough days. I was tired by the end of the day and also feeling a little low and always thinking about what I could be eating. When hungry or craving sugar, I would have a smoothie or would snack on raw veggies with hummus and/or fruits. When I was really hungry, I had some raw almonds. Did you ever think almonds could taste like the sweetest, more delicious food out there!?
Anyway, I strayed from the plan only slightly, but it is clearly working! My energy by the end of day 4 was great. I found I wasn’t trying to rush the kids off to bed and I didn’t feel the need to collapse on the coach at 9:00 pm after all of my next day prep was done.
Because it was Dave’s second time doing this cleanse, the first few days weren’t as rough as the first time we did this last year. Although, one day he was so hungry, he ate 9 pears. Again, this is not about deprivation!
Wow, my cravings are gone! Well, they aren’t gone because I am craving salads again! And, I am not thinking about food all of the time.
Dave has noticed that he doesn’t take 10 minutes to get the aches and pains out of his body when he runs. He was so amazed because he thought it was somewhat normal to feel that way. A definite sign the inflammation is gone. Being a coffee drinker, he also noticed that he doesn’t need the coffee to get going and is actually waking up feeling rested at 6:00 am. He noticed much more stable energy throughout the day.
10 days after the clenase
Still doing well. Dave is actually taking apples and nuts to work for snacks instead of grabbing a bagel at Tim’s. And, he has shifted from having whey protein powder to vegan protein powder because he realized that his body wasn’t digesting it well. Still no coffee…only green tea. Never thought I would see this day!
I am doing well, still not as many cravings as before and my energy is back to normal. Whew….the 10 days was worth it. We are already talking about doing this again in the fall.
