Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Doctors promote healing through the use of natural methods and substances, the goal of treatment is to discover the root cause of the illness and restore balance to the body. Naturopathic treatment includes clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, acupuncture, and lifestyle counselling.

Each person is assessed in detail and receives an individualized treatment plan based on their goals. Whether your goal is to overcome acute or chronic illness, improve your diet and lifestyle, eliminate pain, ensure you have a healthy pregnancy, or to simply focus on prevention, naturopathic medicine can help.

To determine the cause of your illness or imbalances, we have access to many traditional laboratory tests and progressive diagnostics, such as food allergy and candida testing, comprehensive stool analysis, and hair mineral analysis to name a few. (detailed list below) When developing your specialized treatment plan, we can draw on a wide range of tools including clinical nutrition, vitamin and herbal supplementation, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, lifestyle therapy, and more.

Naturopathic Medicine is an effective therapy for treating many health concerns including: skin conditions (eczema, psoraisis, acne, etc.), acute and chronic infections, allergies, migraines, digestive issues (irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, heartburn), balancing hormones (PMS, fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis), optimizing thyroid and adrenal function, paediatric health concerns, and pre and post natal support.

What Can You Expect at Your First Appointment?

An initial naturopathic consultation is approximately 1 hour long.  Your Naturopath will do a health history, review your health concerns in detail, ask about your diet, digestion, sleep and stress patterns, and most importantly ask you about your current and future goals for your health.  This is an important first step to finding the root cause of your health problems.  If laboratory testing or a physical examination is required, it can be done during the visit or scheduled for a later time.  Follow up appointments are 30 minutes in length.  At Balance Point Health Centre, we always take a holistic approach and will therefore work and exchange correspondence with your medical doctors or other health care providers if required.

*Most extended health insurance covers Naturopathic medical care.
